Selecting Your First VoIP Service Phone System

Selecting a VoIP telephone system or service provider can be a daunting process. To make things easier, check out some of the posts on this blog in order to gain some background knowledge on what VoIP phone service is, and how it works. Be sure you have a good reason to change, the most common ones being, price and quality.

Then, decide what kind of system you want. The basic phone system or, maybe you want to upgrade to the new VoIP Video Phone which allows you to not only talk to anyone in the world, but, if they have a Video Phone, see them too! This new item is also portable, so you can take it with you and receive "video phone calls" anywhere with a broadband connection.

Once you've decided to switch over, seek out recommendations from family, friends, co-workers, ect. In this case, a positive recommendation from a trusted source is invaluable.

Inquire with the BetterBusinessBureau.com to see if there have been numerous complaints filed about the company/companies you are considering. Another great website to visit is BroadbandReports.com featuring information from regular consumers along with leading industry figures.

Finally, make sure you know the terms of your contract. As a rule of thumb, shorter contracts, (though more expensive), are usually better in an emerging technology field. Make sure you are aware of any specialized equipment you will need, what the service policies are and how to contact technical support and customer service and before you sign that contract, make sure you are aware of any and all fees and surcharges.

Getting Beyond the Hype of VoIP Service!

East Brunswick, NJ (ContentDesk) March 15, 2006 --

Making phone calls over the Internet or VoIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol) has been around for 9 years. During this time, billions have been spent upgrading networks, purchasing equipment and advertising VoIP service.

There are magazines like Telephony Magazine or Internet Telephony that focus on VoIP; the Wall Street Journal has covered 911 issues with VoIP and the FCC passed regulations around VoIP. Companies such as Vonage have sprouted up selling low cost phone service that offer unlimited national calling plans for under $25, cable companies offer VoIP, even traditional telecommunications companies like AT&T and Verizon offer VoIP.

VoIP is changing the way the telecommunications companies operate, changing and threatening their business models. With all of the money spent on equipment, the publicity, the regulations and the change, currently there are less than 5 million VoIP customers in the United States.

Is it all just hype? There is no doubt that VoIP is changing or will change the way people make phone calls. The Spring VON (Voice Over Net) 2006 conference will be taking place from March 14 - 17 at the San Jose McEnery Convention Center in San Jose, CA. A leading industry event for VoIP, VON brings together all the players in the converging communications landscape to map out the future. Taplin will discus how VoIP lays the groundwork in most organizations for a new paradigm in communications, yet this is just the first step, not the end game. He will talk about other collaboration technologies and applications that will be needed to make enterprises truly collaborative.

Finally, Lov Kher, Senior VoIP Consultant, will be leading the panel titled, "VoIP Technology for Emergency Services." This panel will answer such questions as when can new deployments impact the end user and does it match the regulatory requirements. What is VOIP Service and why do we need it?

Welcome to my VOIP Service blog where you will learn about VOIP Service, what is it, the latest advancements and how to benifit from it?

To start off, VOIP stands for Voice Over Internet Protocol.

This is relatively new technology, that let's you make phone calls over a broadband Internet connection instead of using the standard phone lines.

With a VOIP phone system, all calls are made over the Internet by converting analog audio signals to digital data and the advantage of VOIP service, is the ability to place local and long-distance phone calls without paying extra phone charges.
